I'm selling my phone on ebay, and have had an email from an american guy asking for the phone to be shipped to lithuania as he is there until 28 march he says he will pay for the phone and the shipping. is this legit what do you think?
also how much would it be to ship there?
xGuys and girls i need your advice?
ACCEPTING PAYPAL IS NOT SAFE!!!
Others are saying it's safe if you get payment through paypal, but that IS NOT true...
For starters you have to post it to a verified address, if a paypal address is not verified or he asks you to send it to another address, you're not covered at all! And the limited cover doesn't stop there... I'll tell you about my experiences later... But first....
Tell him you will only post to the UK, no international buyers - it sounds dodgy, so don't risk it.
In this situation, it's probably a stolen american credit card, and the theif lives in Lithuania... The address he'll want you to send it to will probably be a deralict house or a PO box.
Anyway... If you accepted a payment from paypal, and later it turns out to be stolen, paypal will reverse the payment, so you will be out of pocket. Many people think paypal is safe due to all the paypal safety adverts, but after all the small print you're actually covered for VERY little... I learnt this the hard way....
Firstly, I got ripped off through paypal when buying a memory card from hong kong... I paid 拢30 for it, and after never receiving it, I processed a claim... the claim was awarded to me, but paypal couldn't recover my 拢30 because the seller didn't have any balance in his paypal account and a request from his bank bounced.
Second time, I was the seller... I sold a sky plus box for 拢80... The buyer said the box arrived with a brick in it and no sky box. A paypal claim was processed by the buyer, and I replied with my side saying the box was sent recorded delivery and the sky box was securely packed. The claim was awarded to the buyer, and the payment was reversed. I lost out on 拢80. I considered claiming through the post office, I rang them and explained the situation, that apparently the sky box had been replaced with a brick, and they said I'd have to provide proof that I had packed a sky box and not a brick... I asked how do I proove that? They said I should have a packing slip and a receipt of purchase for the item and would have also been required to have sealed the box with security tamper-proof tape. Well, as a private seller I don't have my own tamper proof security tape, so they advised me the claim wouldn't be accepted.
So..... Basically, if anything sounds dodgy, don't risk it, you're likely to lose out.Guys and girls i need your advice?
Don't bother with this guy.
as long as he pays you first you are OK!! i ship stuff off all over the place. i dont get much trouble.
Box it up and take to the post office for a price. Get the money (Paypal payment would be best) before sending it.
My boyfriend had the same thing, he sold an old phone on ebay and someone in poland won the bid. He did pay for it but never left aby feedback or anything. My boyfriend WAS worried about whether he could trust the guy but he got paid and thats all that matters really.
Id expect the postage to be somewhere in the region of 拢10-12 or more if the guy insists on recorded airmail or something : ) x
Calculate the shipping with ebay, then have the guy pay that plus the price of the phone through paypal. That way you get paid right away and won't have to worry about being ripped off.
Weight the phone and get the shipping info go to USPS.com and you can calculate the shipping.
Have him pay with Paypal and don't ship until payment has cleared. Also check his rating on Ebay? is this his first transaction?
It is up to you whether or not the hassle is worth what he will pay.
Don't do it. It's a scam of some sort.
i wouldnt do that id say that your willing to wait until he gets back to the uk, and to post abroad takes weeks 2 get there. id tell him theres no point in posting it there cos it takes to long and also alot of foriegners are after our mobiles so they can get the network changed and use them abroad, thats why if you go in a mobile phone shop they will only sell u one phone at a time, be careful on this one
Ask for pre-payment like Paypal or something. To find out shipping charges call your local post office as I am not sure if that info is on www.usps.com. You might want to also ask what the shipping time is as 28March08 is only 16 days away from today..
